I grew up in Gainesville, Florida where I attended the University of Florida. My major at the UF was Fine Arts: Electronic Intermedia. While I always knew I wanted to work with the arts and computers, it wasn’t until returning to Eastside High School, my high school alma mater, as an employee that I discovered my desire to share my love of art and technology with students. There I worked as a computer lab operator and worked with students and faculty, providing assistance and instruction. Two years later, I moved to Southwest Florida and began my career as a teacher. I taught middle school reading, art, digital arts and television productions over the course of a decade before accepting my current position as digital design / web design instructor and webmaster at North Fort Myers High School.
I received a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction: Computer Education in January 2011 from the University of Phoenix. In August 2016 I started work on my Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Florida Gulf Coast University.
Throughout my fourteen years in the classroom, I have received several awards and recognitions. I was one of thirty-five Golden Apple finalists in 2008, 2012 and 2014 as well as a recipient of the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year Award in 2007. In 2009 I was recognized as my county’s Middle School Technical and Career Educator of the Year. I’ve also been recognized as a Golden Apple Teach of Distinction. I’ve presented at the Florida Educational Technology Conference (FETC) in 2010, 2011, and 2012, 2013 and 2015. I also had an article published in THE Journal (Technological Horizons in Education) in July 2013. I feel honored and humbled to be recognized for something I enjoy doing so much.
Outside of my profession, I have several hobbies and passions. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, going to museums, drawing and painting, creating music, video gaming, digital photography, web design, podcasting, and working on other various computer related projects. An avid fan of ska music, I’ve created or maintained several ska music related websites and have developed websites and logos for several musicians and music industry professionals including extensive work with Citrus Records. I also operate a ska internet radio station called SKAspot Radio.
